Understanding the HubSpot framework

In your HubSpot CRM, objects represent business relationships and processes (e.g., contacts, deals). Each object has individual records which can be associated with records of other objects (e.g., Bethany Lewty is a contact associated with the company Synx). On each record, information is stored in properties and interactions are tracked through activities.

Objects:

represent the different types of relationships and processes your business has. All HubSpot accounts use four standard objects: contacts, companies, deals, and tickets. Depending on your HubSpot subscription, there are other objects available. All objects use the same framework, which enables you to segment or report on them.

Activities:

Activities are interactions that are recorded on a record's timeline. They include notes, emails, calls, tasks, and meetings.

Properties:

Properties are the different fields where you can store information on a record.

Records:

A record is a single instance of an object, where you can store information in properties and track interactions.

Contacts

Any person who interacts with your business can be saved as a contact in HubSpot. Examples of contacts include visitors that convert on a form, visitors who contact your chat team, or potential customers that your team met during an event. You can create individual contacts from the contacts index page, or create contacts through other HubSpot tools.

To manually create a contact:

In your HubSpot account, navigate to Contacts > Contacts. In the upper right, click Create contact. In the right panel, enter the properties of the contact. Once you've filled in the contact's name and/or email, additional fields will appear.

[Please note: it is not recommended to add contacts to the CRM without an email address because HubSpot uses the email address to deduplicate contacts and automatically associate contacts with companies]
